Immunogen
Recombinant ectodomains of human basigin.
Application Notes
The antibody binds specifically to basigin, a protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily which is expressed on the surface of erythrocyte and acts as a receptor for the human malaria parasite P. falciparum. The recombinant chimeric monoclonal antibody Ab-1 acts by blocking the interaction between basigin and PfRH5, a ligand necessary for the P. falciparum erythrocyte invasion, thereby inhibiting the development of malaria.
