Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody binds human apolipoprotein B (APOB). Apolipoprotein B is a major protein constituent of chylomicrons (apo B-48), LDL (apo B-100) and VLDL (apo B-100). Apo B-100 functions as a recognition signal for the cellular binding and internalization of LDL particles by the apoB/E receptor. It is involved in the metabolism of lipids and is the main protein constituent of lipoproteins such as very low- density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, the “bad cholesterol”). |
Alternative Name | APOB; Apolipoprotein B-100; Apo B-100 |
UniProt | P04114 |
Immunogen | The original antibody was generated by immunizing female BALB/c mice intraperitoneally with 20ug of human apo B-100 and dead Salmonella microbes. |
Application Notes | The binding characterization of this antibody towards human APO-B was done using ELISA and immunoblotting. This antibody was also used in a serum assay to determine the quantity of apo- B in a sample using competitive ELISA. This antibody was shown to react with isolated human Apo-B as well as low density lipids but not with high density lipids and lipoprotein-deficient serum (Yoon et al., 1993). |
