Specificity
This antibody is specific for CD11a. CD11a is a receptor for ICAM1, ICAM2, ICAM3, ICAM4, F11R, and the secreted form of ubiquitin-like protein ISG15. CD11a is involved in a variety of immune phenomena including leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction, cytotoxic T-cell mediated killing, and antibody dependent killing by granulocytes and monocytes. It contributes to natural killer cell cytotoxicity.

Immunogen
The mouse version of this antibody was raised by immunizing a BALB/c mosue with human cytotoxic T-lymphocytes.
Application Notes
To show that the enhanced adhesiveness of CD4+ T cells is induced by CD3 cross- linking, an adhesion assay was performed on human PMBCs using the mouse version of this antibody (Mazerolles et al, 1991; pmid:1826886). An adhesion assay was performed on human T and B cells in the presence of the mouse version of this antibody to study the kinetics of T-cell adhesion (Mazerolles et al, 1991; pmid:1679053).

To show that the enhanced adhesiveness of CD4+ T cells induced by CD3 cross- linking using plastic-bound anti-CD3 antibody can also be inhibited by several CD4 ligands. i.e. anti-CD4 antibodies, the gp160 env protein of human immunodeficiency virus, as well as by putative CD4 ligands,i.e. synthetic peptides analogous to the gp160-binding site to CD4 (positions 418-434 and 449-464) and a 12-mer synthetic peptide (DR-12) analogous to positions 35-46 of HLA class II beta subunit and including the highly conserved Arg-Phe-Asp-Ser (RFDS) sequence.
