From
Recombinant Antibody
Specificity
This antibody binds human alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). AFP is made in the liver of developing babies. It binds copper, nickel, and fatty acids as well as, and bilirubin less well than, serum albumin. AFP levels in healthy adults is very low. Elevated levels of AFP in adult human blood is a marker for cancer.
Alternative Names
AFP; Alpha-fetoglobulin
UniProt
P02771
Immunogen
The original antibody was generated by immunizing mice with human alpha-fetoprotein.
Application Notes
The specificity of this antibody towards hepatoma cells was determined using ELISA. The tumor targeting ability of the antibody was characterized using cell immunostaining and complement :killings assays (PMID: 1379974).
