Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody is specific for human CD11a. CD11a is a receptor for ICAM1, ICAM2, ICAM3, ICAM4, F11R, and the secreted form of ubiquitin-like protein ISG15. CD11a is involved in a variety of immune phenomena including leukocyte-endothelial cell interaction, cytotoxic T-cell mediated killing, and antibody dependent killing by granulocytes and monocytes. It contributes to natural killer cell cytotoxicity. |
Alternative Name | SPV-L1; Integrin alpha-L; ITGAL; CD11 antigen-like family member A; Leukocyte adhesion glycoprotein LFA-1 alpha chain; LFA-1A; Leukocyte function-associated molecule 1 alpha chain |
UniProt | P20701 |
Immunogen | The mouse version of this antibody was raised by immunizing a BALB/c mouse with cells of the T4+T8- cytotoxic T lymphocyte clone HG-38. |
Application Notes | To prove that LFA-1 and Mo-1 have a similar backbone, immunoprecipitation was performed on human leukocytes using the mouse version of this antibody (Keizer et al, 1985; pmid:2933266). To characterize this antibody, immunoprecipitation was performed on JY cells using the mouse version of this antibody. Furthermore, a cytotoxic assay was performed on human CTL clones HG-38 (T3+, T4+) and HG-31 (T3+, T8) using this antibody. Finally, blood leukocytes, thymocytes, and several lymphoid cell lines were stained using this antibody (Spits et al, 1983; pmid:6332061). A proliferation assay was used on lymphocyte populations with the mouse version of this antibody to study autocrine proliferation in human helper T cell clones. The antibody only blocked proliferation stimulated by PBMC, but not by B-LCL (Pawelec et al, 1989; pmid:2521616). |
