Application | IP, WB, FC |
Species Reactivity | Human |
Basic Information | |
Specificity | This antibody is specific for the α2 integrin subunit, and recognises an epitope outside the von Willebrand factor A-type, or collagen-binding domain. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane glycoproteins, which are expressed by a range of cells, including T cells, NK cells, fibroblasts and platelets, where they mediate cell adhesion. |
Alternative Name | Integrin alpha-2; CD49 antigen-like family member B; Collagen receptor; Platelet membrane glycoprotein Ia; GPIa; VLA-2 subunit alpha; alpha 2 subunit of VLA-2 receptor; BR; CD49B; human platelet alloantigen system 5; ITGA2; platelet antigen Br; platelet glycoprotein GPIa; very late activation protein 2 receptor, alpha-2 subunit |
UniProt | P17301 |

Application Notes | This antibody has been used in flow cytometric analysis to investigate the surface expression of α2 integrin by cultured human endothelial cells (Sincock et al, 1999), and in immunoprecipitation analysis to assess the interaction between PETA-3 and integrins on the surface of endothelial cells (Sincock et al, 1999). Alexa Fluor 647-conjugated 16B4 has been used to evaluate the expression of integrin α2β1 on the surface of platelets by confocal imaging (Poulter et al, 2017). This antibody has been employed to detect integrin α2β1 expression through in-cell Western blotting analysis in primary fibroblasts (Suarez et al, 2014). This antibody has also been used to coat polystyrene beads as part of a microsphere-based cellular adhesion assay; human osteosarcoma cells transfected with the integrin a2 subunit displayed high levels of interaction with beads coated in this anti-α2 integrin antibody (Connors & Heino, 2004). |
